Volunteering
Volunteering gives you the opportunity to change lives, including your own. As a volunteer at McLean, you play an integral role in our success.
We are always looking for compassionate people who can assist us in fulfilling the important role of volunteer. Opportunities are available that include a wide range of individual and group tasks.
Volunteers are rewarded with the knowledge that a difference has been made in the life of our residents. Your role may or may not involve direct involvement with our residents. As a volunteer, you can choose what really interests you and who (or what) is most deserving of your time. Here are just a few requests our staff currently have:

- Friendly Visitor
- Greenhouse Assistant
- Media Center Assistant
- Resident Mail Delivery
- Craft Program
- Ceramics
- Sunday Services
- Special Events
- Bingo
- Menu Selection
- Transport Assistance
- Book Club
- Wii Gaming
- Wellness Center
- Meals on Wheels
- Pet Therapy
- Share your musical talent/interest
Prior to placement, volunteers must attend an orientation session lasting approximately 45 minutes.
You must be 14 years of age to begin volunteering with us. An application may be obtained by clicking on the link below, or picked up at our reception desk. Once the application is received, you will be contacted with the date of an upcoming volunteer orientation session.
If you have any questions, please contact Kathy Cookson, Volunteer Coordinator at 860-658-3725.
**We also welcome groups to entertain or do special projects with our residents.
Why do I volunteer at McLean?
"I have pretty good health right now and I like to help people and brighten their day. I enjoy visiting with the people who live at McLean."
Jerry Doskos, Simsbury, CT
"I used to live at the Robinson at McLean and started volunteering then. I have been volunteering now for almost 3 years in the same department doing the same thing. The whole attitude is friendly. I get a warm feeling every week that I am there."
Jane Secor, Avon, CT
If you cannot donate your time, please consider making a charitable contribution.
