McLean Hospice Memorial Quilt of Remembrance Unveiled

On November 13th, the McLean Hospice Team unveiled the 2012 McLean Hospice Memorial Quilt of Remembrance for families and friends who lost loved ones in 2012.

Attendees had contributed personalized quilt squares in honor of patients who had died in hospice care. In a brief ceremony prior to the unveiling, Bonnie Lillis, Hospice Spiritual Counselor, spoke of the relevance of the National Hospice and Palliative Care theme for November’s National Hospice Month …“care on your terms.” Lillis said, “that each unique square … provides another special way to honor … loved ones…and provide a small measure of comfort. This year’s quilt is inspiring to all of us at McLean Hospice who cared for your loved ones as it reflects such amazing and abundant love.” Lillis thanked the volunteers, including the quilter, Dottie Szypulski of Barkhamsted,(pictured at left), Elizabeth Scheidel of Burlington, who cross-stitched a poem for the quilt, and the Hospice volunteers who worked with the families to create the squares. Dottie, in her address to the audience, admitted that creating the quilt was a challenge that she relished. She went on to explain that her choice of the floral quilting fabric was inspired by a vision of afterlife as a beautiful garden. As volunteers unveiled the quilt, there were tears, joy, appreciation and applause. Many remarked “it was exquisite” and they were so glad they could be part of the ceremony. A 2013 Memorial Quilt of Remembrance will be created following the McLean Hospice Annual Memorial event held in the Spring of 2014.For additional information about events, see News and Events listed on the McLean Website www.mcleancare.org.
