Mrs. Martin's 107th Birthday with two TV stations at her luncheon

Mrs. Martin still keeping going 107 at McLean HomeImagine being 107 years old. Mrs. Martin remembers all those years clearly and is looking forward to more. She was delighted to have Ann Baldwin arrive with a gigantic box of chocolates and film crews from Channel 3 WFSB and Channel 30 NBC. All the McLean Home residents joined in singing happy birthday as balloons were tired to Bernice's chair.

David Bordonaro, President, recognized McLean employees at a special reception on December 4th for their long Rita Rozantes is thanked by David Bordonaro, McLean President, for her thirty years of service.service and commitment to providing excellent customer services. He noted that McLean staff includes professionals in many disciplines who provide healthcare in the Health Center, Home Care & Hospice and Outpatient Rehab Clinic. Other staff provides exceptional services for assisted living residents and The Village community members. “I always begin by saying, what would McLean be without you? McLean’s history of quality and care is what makes McLean special. This year we were honored to receive a Top Workplace Award from The Hartford Courant/Fox News. The healthcare environment requires all of us to embrace change and adapt quickly as the industry of healthcare and elderly services evolves. I am proud that we are doing this as on organization and as individuals especially those who are being honored today for long service. Think of all the changes, new programs and services over your time here. This makes us a better organization today and positions us well for the future. Thank you.”

McLean Hospice Welcomes New Volunteers

McLean Hospice volunteer class Nov. 2013McLean’s 17 new Hospice volunteer graduates are from many backgrounds. They are retirees including a former nurse, a hospital worker, guidance counselor and property manager, to an active policewoman, a singer, two Reiki masters, active industry or insurance professionals, a pet therapist, a high school student and a homemaker with school-age children.  Volunteers are dispersed geographically throughout McLean’s service area coming from Avon, Bloomfield, Burlington, Canton, Enfield, Granby, New Hartford, Simsbury, W. Suffield, and Windsor Locks.  Most will participate in direct patient and family support while others will support program administration.

McLean Meals-on-Wheels Clients Were All Set with Emergency Meals During Storm Sandy

Hurricane Sandy came and found the recipients of McLean’s Meals-on-Wheels program well prepared. After the devastating storms last year, McLean received a generous grant from the Fisher Foundation to provide shelf-stable, emergency meals for all Meals-on-Wheels recipients. 

The meal-packs were delivered to clients on Tuesday, October 23rd.  “With a shelf life of more than five years, no one imagined they would be needed so quickly!” remarked Rollin Shank, Meals-on-Wheels volunteer driver:  “Had the donors been able to see the recipients’ reactions today, they would understand that their gift was so much more than worth the effort.  My clients were absolutely beaming when they realized what had been done for them.”
