Bill Davis McLean GardensThey are two of Bill Davis’ passions that he’s happily pursuing while living in the McLean Health Center. Polish chickenKris McCue is a regular volunteer at McLean bringing her grandchildren to visit with residents and do special activities with them on a weekly basis. This has been a family tradition since Kris' own grandmother was at McLean. But on June 20th, the visit was truly memorable as Sage McCue and her siblings brought in a crate of her prized, Polish Crested Chickens. What a hit they were! Some residents had never patted a chicken before. Others like Billie, pictured left, grew up on farms, and the chickens brought back many memories for them to share.

McLean Opens The Atwater…a different kind of Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care

Atwater Ribbon Cutting CeremonyMonday, June 4th was a very busy day on the campus of McLean in Simsbury. The public was invited to have a sneak peek of The Atwater, the new memory care assisted living neighborhood in the McLean Health Center, before residents began moving in on Tuesday. David Bordonaro, President, explained “We have been planning this for a long time. Extensive research went into every detail of the design of the environment and the program to maximize people’s independence and their enjoyment of life, while providing a safe, supportive place for those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. With this new program McLean offers a full continuum of lifestyle options and healthcare for elders. This continuum of care makes McLean unique in the Farmington Valley. Families now have the peace of mind that McLean is with them for this difficult journey. It is a small intimate neighborhood for 22 residents. Plus the residents have access to McLean outstanding healthcare services including rehabilitation and hospice and can enjoy the amenities such as the gift shop, chapel, beauty salon, walking trails on the beautiful campus, and live musical performances in the Health Center.”
