National Physical Therapy Month Celebrates Baby Boomers and How They Can Stay Active and Healthy

According to the 2011 "AARP Bulletin Survey on Exercise," approximately 7 in 10 adults age 45 and older (71%) are physically active. If you are a baby boomer, physical therapists can help you stay physically active, including helping you deal with common injuries associated with aging, such as tendinitis and meniscus tears as well as the effects of arthritis.

Beginning October 1 and continuing through November 19, the American Association of Physical Therapy will be hosting its "50 Days 50 Ways – Fit After 50" challenge. During this challenge they will be providing 50 days’ worth of tips to boomers on how to prevent injury and get and/or stay fit and mobile with the help of a McLean physical therapist who is passionate about working with boomers and seniors.

The Need is Great - The Rewards are Real - McLean Meals-on-Wheels is in need of Volunteers

The McLean Meals-on-Wheels program is a fantastic way for residents to get involved in their community. Volunteers deliver nutritious meals to homebound seniors. They also provide companionship and a safety check for residents in the community. All it requires is a two-hour commitment once or twice a month, and access to a car. Become one of the Meals-on-Wheels volunteers and make a difference in someone’s life. Drivers are needed for the Avon, Canton, Granby, and East Granby routes. The meal pick-up points are McLean and Avon Valley Baptist Church.

A Family Reunion at McLean

Jean Douglas,  a resident of The Robinson an assisted living neighborhood at McLean, was delighted when her family suggested they hold their Douglas family reunion at 'her home' at McLean Sunday afternoon, August 12. Four generations from six states planned for over a year to 'gather at Grandma's house' following family vacation week at Lake Winnipesaukee, NH. Moms, Dads, children, grandchildren, cousins, aunts and uncles gathered in Simsbury for an afternoon of fun, reminiscing, talking, playing games, looking at old pictures, and eating together like old times.
