McLean Honors Volunteers at Appreciation Breakfast

Almost 400 volunteers recognized for work and dedication to McLean

On Tuesday, September 9, Lisa Clark, Vice President and Administrator of the McLean Health Center, alongside David Bordonaro, McLean President, and Kathy Cookson, Volunteer Coordinator, took the opportunity to honor McLean volunteers who provided extraordinary services in 2014 by holding a Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast in the newly renovated Pfirman Dining Room.

“We want to thank you for the time and energy you devote to McLean and to our residents. It’s your dedication that makes McLean the vibrant and caring organization that it is. Your personal sacrifice for the benefit of our community is greatly appreciated,” Clark addressed the room full of volunteers.

Lorraine Daigle, McLean Auxiliary President, also addressed the volunteers, thanking them for their continued service in making the Gift Shop an integral part of McLean’s successful fundraising efforts.

“The McLean Auxiliary was established in 1972 to support and operate a gift shop, with the proceeds of sales to benefit residents, employees, guests and community. Today our Gift Shop, staffed by both auxiliary members and non-auxiliary volunteers is an important source of revenue, which in conjunction with auxiliary fund raisers, membership dues and memorial donations help support patient programs and services, as well as finance a scholarship fund designated for employees or children of employees pursuing a degree in healthcare.”

Currently, McLean has a total of almost 400 volunteers who serve in various departments including Hospice, Memory Care, the Auxiliary, the Gift Shop, Therapeutic Recreation, Wellness, Admissions, Assisted Living, Development, and Meals-on-Wheels. Volunteer activities can include visiting with residents, assisting with programs and activities, administrative tasks, driving, and community outreach.

McLean Home Care and Hospice a Top Workplace

McLean Home Care and Hospice is pleased to announce that it has been selected as one of The Hartford Courant, FOX CT and Hartford Magazine Top Workplaces for the third year in a row.

Pat Adams RN, MPH, CMC, and Administrator of McLean Home Care & Hospice congratulated McLean Home Care and Hospice employees for making McLean a leader in senior living, and senior healthcare again this year.  “We are very proud of the high quality expertise and care our trusted home care and hospice teams consistently provide. It is their dedication which continues to earn accolades and achievements, including this latest recognition of being a TOP CT Workplace three years running.”

The Top Workplaces are determined primarily on employee feedback. Initially, a member of the Home Care & Hospice team nominated McLean Home Care and Hospice for the award. All employers that were nominated were not charged a fee for their nomination. The next step includes an employee survey. The employee survey is conducted by WorkplaceDynamics, LLP, a leading research firm on organizational health and employee engagement. WorkplaceDynamics conducts regional Top Workplaces programs with 40 major publishing partners across the United StatesThe results of the survey put McLean in a select group of over 700 employers.

Contest judges reviewed the survey results which included responses on McLean's leadership, values, compensation packages and other factors. In addition, to be eligible for the designation of Top Workplace, a company must exceed a standard that is consistent across the United States.  All of this and more contributed to the official recognition of a Top Workplace.

The Hartford Courant and FOX CT published the complete list of Top Workplaces on September 21st. For more information about the Top Workplaces lists please visit
