Physical Therapist, Michelle Herbert, works with Beatrice Pugsley at the McLean Post-Acute Center.

Beatrice Pugsley, a spunky, independent 81 year old Hartford resident, broke her femur, while going down her basement stairs, carrying four gallons of water. After receiving a partial hip replacement at Hartford Hospital, Beatrice and her son, Peter, who lives in Avon, looked at three rehab facilities in the Farmington Valley. “McLean was definitely the best. It was bright, cheerful and clean, and had an excellent reputation. I wanted the best for my mom, and I didn’t mind driving the extra distance. Beatrice, who lives independently in her own home, had never been hospitalized before, or taken medication on a regular basis. “I’m so glad that I came to McLean.  They do a fantastic job here – no question about it! They are well organized. They know where they’re going and devote the right amount of attention to each patient.  Everyone has been so helpful, and the food here has been great! They give you just the right amount and everything is so tasty.”

Beatrice says that she is anxious to get back to driving and participating in activities at the two senior centers that she belongs to. “I love my independence, and McLean has helped me get back on my feet again. I am very grateful for the great care I’ve received.  I know I made the right choice to come here.”

The McLean Post-Acute Center just released patient satisfaction scores for the past quarter, and the experience of Beatrice is confirmed as the norm. One-hundred percent of the patients responding to the survey gave good to excellent scores for

  • overall satisfaction with the facility,
  • recommending McLean to others,
  • their experience that their choices and preferences were met,
  • the respect shown to them by the staff,
  • and the quality of care by nurses, aides and therapists.

The McLean Post-Acute Center offers short-term rehabilitation, and specializes in orthopedic rehabilitation, recovery from fractures, after stroke care and reconditioning after an illness. They also care for post-surgical and cardiac patients, as well as for those who could benefit from more care after a hospitalization.
