The McLean Auxiliary serves McLean and its residents, clients and staff through service activities, fundraising, social functions and other support of its programs. Auxiliary members staff and manage the Auxiliary Gift shop, located off the living room in the main lobby of the Health Center. Residents may purchase daily necessities, including the daily newspaper, and a wide variety of gift items. The Art Lounge, coordinated by the Auxiliary, brings to the residents a continuously changing exhibition of works by talented regional artists.

All proceeds from the Auxiliary's fundraising activities are directed toward increasing the comfort and enjoyment of residents' lives. Each year the Auxiliary donates a major gift or gifts to McLean to enhance its programs in some special way. Auxiliary gifts have been used to help purchase a lift equipped van, to assist in the building of a therapeutic greenhouse, to establish the Hospice Memorial Fund and the Hospice family room, to fund performances by regional artists, and numerous other items from McLean's 'wish list'.

Auxiliary social activities have included arts and crafts workshops, baby day, and lectures on a variety of topics, lunch and theatre trips, the annual employee appreciation day, casino night, strawberry festival and annual meeting. This year saw the third annual Christmas Tree Auction and Reception, which attracted many guests from the Simsbury community and served as a successful event, raising approximately $5,000 for the Auxiliary to spend on resident and patient needs.

Another important contribution that the McLean Auxiliary makes to the McLean community each year is the Employee Scholarship. Each year a $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a child of an employee, or an employee, who is pursuing a career in healthcare. Applications are received in February and March, and the person is selected by a panel, based on need.

Members may be active, or may wish to provide financial support only. The Auxiliary's efforts are as many and varied as the talents of its members. There is a fulfilling role for everyone.
