Alzheimer's/Dementia

McLean does not have a specialized dementia unit because it offers exceptional specialized dementia care throughout the facility. All staff, who work directly with patients with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia; nursing, CNAs, and social services staff, receive up-to-date dementia-related training and education on an on-going basis.

McLean offers a wide range of recreational programs, on a daily basis, to all residents of the facility. Those programs include: arts, crafts, gardening, and music, pet therapy, special guest visitors, specialized groups, out-trips, and a variety of presentations. There are also specialized sensory-related programs designed specifically for patients with advanced dementia.

McLean offers an on-site, monthly, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia support group meeting. The group is open to both family members at McLean, and to the public.

Skilled/Long Term Care

McLean's good reputation has been built on years of good outcomes and satisfied patients and families. When you are trying to find the right facility for a loved one, you look for a place that will care for your loved one as well as you would care for that person yourself, and that is what you will find at McLean.

Some points that set us apart:

  • Families and residents are involved with care planning soon after admission
  • Plenty of free parking, and we are open 24 hours a day for visitation (though we ask you to make special arrangements for unusual hours)
  • Pet therapy and horticulture therapy in addition to many other recreational therapy activities
  • Board Certified Geriatric Physician on staff
  • Unusual longevity with nursing staff - people enjoy working here
  • Many of our staff have special training as geriatricians
  • Award-winning dietary department - we're known for our good food
